Expert Translation in Nutrition and Public Health

Expert translation in nutrition

Description

✨ Introduction

As part of a public health training initiative, Traduction-Québec was entrusted with an expert translation in nutrition project. The mandate involved translating a series of university-level educational documents on nutrition, developed through an interuniversity collaboration. Thanks to our linguistic expertise and in-depth knowledge of the field, we played an active role in training Québec’s future nutrition professionals.

✨ The Context

This project was part of the Public Health Nutrition University Certification offered by Laval University. Developed in partnership with McGill University, Université de Montréal, the Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec (OPDQ), and Québec en Forme, the program aimed to equip nutritionists working in public health. Traduction-Québec was responsible for the expert translation of approximately 60,000 words of educational content into English.

The texts, written for a university audience, were technical, scientific and instructional in nature. To ensure that the translated documents served their purpose, both terminological accuracy and accessibility had to be guaranteed.

✨ The Challenges

The first challenge was maintaining a balance between scientific precision and pedagogical clarity. Indeed, delivering an expert translation in nutrition requires not only mastery of specialized vocabulary, but also the ability to adapt tone and style to suit a learning context.

Moreover, the content was developed by several institutional partners, each with their own terminological preferences. Harmonizing the materials while respecting pedagogical objectives and tight deadlines was essential.

✨ Our Approach

From the outset, we implemented a tailored strategy. A translator specialized in nutrition was assigned to the project, supported by a reviser experienced in scientific content. We also used a translation memory and validated term bases provided by the partner institutions.

We maintained open, continuous communication with the School of Nutrition. This close collaboration allowed us to quickly adjust our approach based on feedback, ensuring that our expert translation in nutrition was fully integrated into the wider educational material.

✨ Delivered Results

All documents were delivered within the agreed timelines, in formats compatible with the educational platforms in use. The translated content fit seamlessly into the training modules, with consistent style and terminology.

Thanks to our efforts, English-speaking students had access to clear, accurate and scientifically rigorous information. In this way, our expert translation in nutrition supported greater equity in access to knowledge.

✨ Client Benefits

Laval University’s School of Nutrition benefited from an efficient, discreet and well-structured collaboration. The quality of the expert translation in nutrition provided strengthened the program’s credibility with all partners involved.

Our contribution also simplified internal project management—fewer revisions, shorter delays, and above all, improved consistency across all educational content. Ultimately, both students and faculty reaped the rewards.

✨ Conclusion

This project underscored the value of working with professionals who combine linguistic precision with sector-specific knowledge. When it comes to expert translation in nutrition, every word matters—each one influences the transmission of knowledge and the quality of learning.
