From 2023 to 2025, Traduction-Québec partnered with the Observatoire sur la réussite en enseignement supérieur (ORES) on a large-scale mandate. The goal: to support the dissemination of rigorous scientific content through specialized translation in higher education. This strategic collaboration aimed to improve access to knowledge for stakeholders in the college and university sectors.
ORES played a key role in Québec’s higher education network. Its mission was to bring together educators, researchers, administrators and decision-makers around critical issues such as student retention, success and equity in education. To ensure its publications had the desired impact, ORES needed a team of translators who could master the nuances of the field.
That’s when Traduction-Québec came into play.
This mandate went far beyond simple language conversion. It required specialized translation in higher education for official publication. The texts, often derived from applied research, demanded precise terminology and a solid grasp of pedagogical issues. They were intended for a well-informed readership accustomed to high standards.
Another key challenge: strict timelines. ORES followed a fixed publication schedule, and all production phases had to align with it. There was no room for error.
rom the outset, we implemented a rigorous workflow. Each translation project involved a senior translator, a professional reviser, and a dedicated project manager. Thanks to tailored project management tools, we were able to deliver on time while maintaining the expected quality.
We also used a translation memory to ensure terminological consistency across the different components of the project. This method, combined with excellent communication with the ORES team, allowed for seamless integration into their publishing ecosystem.
In total, we translated approximately 100,000 words for this mandate. Deliverables included articles for the Relais and Grand angle journals, along with thematic dossiers covering topics related to higher education.
Each translated text faithfully reflected the author’s intent while adhering to the client’s editorial standards. This level of quality helped reinforce the credibility of ORES’ publications with its readership.
Thanks to our expertise in specialized translation in higher education, ORES was able to provide bilingual versions of its content without compromising on quality. This broadened the organization’s reach to both francophone and anglophone institutions, while ensuring consistency in its scientific communications.
Our ability to meet deadlines—even within a fast-paced production environment—was also a major asset for the client.
Although ORES ceased operations in 2025, this collaboration highlighted the strategic importance of specialized translation in higher education. It also demonstrated the value of working with professionals who can not only translate but also deeply understand academic issues.
